National Intern Day: Safran contributes to shaping young talent of today for future aerospace jobs

Human Resources

Safran companies across the United States offer internships and co-op educational programs, giving university students the opportunity to learn vital job skills, while providing Safran the opportunity to promote the Group’s various divisions – all while building a pipeline of incoming talent.

Safran’s summer intern program provides opportunities to learn during “Launch & Learn” workshops, behind-the-scenes tours of facilities and other events that foster networking and exchange.

Today’s celebration of National Intern Day is an opportunity to learn about some of the interns working at Safran in the United States through the following series of questions and answers.

Aayush Iyengar, Intern – Engineering, Safran Aerosystems Services

  • What skills have you been able to develop during your internship?

Through the various projects I’ve worked at Safran, I would have to say my Excel skills and computer-aided design skills have improved the most. These two skills are used quite often, whether it be addressing or implementing changes for a certain product, or even designing the product itself. Without a doubt, these skills have improved immensely through my internship.

  • What advice can you share with other interns?

The most important thing, in my opinion, is the ability to always ask questions. You should never feel shy or scared to ask regardless of how trivial the question may seem. The people you are working with are extremely knowledgeable in the tasks they are completing, and have many insights that they are almost always willing to share. Being able to always ask questions allows you improve your own performance, as well as opening a means of conversation between others that you are working with.

Safran has pushed me to develop skills on every front. I learned multiple “soft” skills like critical thinking, communication of ideas, or even how to ask better questions. I also learned technical skills in just about every area. I developed applications in five different programming languages, two of which were new to me. I learned about configuration management and helped develop new workflows for technical documents, then I also helped write multiple technical documents.

On top of all that I was able to work on some computer aided design (CAD) drawings. Overall, I think Safran has given me an exceptional foundation to develop into a great engineer.

The first time I heard about Safran was during my MBA studies; one of my classmate mentioned it many times during our Group Discussion. Then, when I was actively looking for jobs, I found about this internship on Indeed.

  • How would you describe your internship experience in one word? Positive!

I was able to apply some acquired knowledge to real work experiences, witnessing corporate day-to-day work duties; sharpening my communication, teamwork, and technology proficiency. More importantly, it is helping me validate my career desires by giving the chance to explore and interact with different departments and getting general understanding about their day-to-day operations. Above all, this internship offered the opportunity to learn from the very professional and supportive people around me.
