Amid a fast launch, ten23 is looking to further expand its manufacturing output in Switzerland – Endpoints News

Swiss-based CDMO ten23 is on the move as it commits to expanding its manufacturing presence in Switzerland just after announcing another expansion earlier this year.

The company is expanding its swissfillon manufacturing site in Visp, which was acquired in October 2021. While the cost of the expansion was not disclosed to Endpoints News, the new building will add over 5,000 square meters of space over four floors, or around 54,000 square feet. The company will also add 100 jobs.

In this new facility, ten23 health plans to build two more sterile manufacturing lines, with the possibility of adding a third. One of the new lines is a scaled-up version of its existing filling line and will provide GMP fill and finish capacity for commercial and clinical use. The total capacity of this line is estimated to produce 20 million units and the line is expected to be operational in 2024.

Ten23’s other line will have the ability to fill bulk containers, both in liquid and lyophilized form, with two larger-scale freeze-driers each at 12.5 square meters of shelf space, for both clinical and commercial use. The annual total capacity of this line is estimated to serve around 12.5 million units.

The physical superstructure of the new building is expected to be completed by the end of summer, but no timeline for the completion of the inner buildout has been given to Endpoints.

“The significant expansion of our production capacity for syringe and capsule filling, and technical capabilities of filling and lyophilization of sterile products in bulk vials, is a clear commitment for Switzerland and will enable our customers to provide treatment options for their patients,” said ten23 CEO Hanns-Christian Mahler.

As to why ten23 took this route, the company told Endpoints it is seeing significant demand from customers as well as a robust market for sterile fill and finish products, especially for complex dosage forms. Also, execs believe Switzerland in general is a good location for expert services.

The move also comes at a time when ten23 is off to the races in terms of growth. In January, the company announced an initial expansion in the Visp site by adding another 1,000 square meters of clean room space for device assembly and packaging by the end of this year. And it has only been less than a year since the company launched and made several acquisitions. This includes an operational lab and office building from Elanco, an Indiana-based company that makes medicines for pets and livestock.
